Unions
Picketing
Picketing can constitute a major inconvenience and/or a
major economic problem for an employer. It is important
to prepare for known picketing. Unfortunately, much
picketing is unexpected. Many employers equate picketing
only to union negotiations. Picketing can be done
by the general public, employees, ex-employees, and
unions. It can be for reasons related to information
to the public, union organizational and recognitional
purposes, or unfair labor practices, and for reasons
related to economics. All forms of
picketing must be identified, and an employer should
be aware that they each must be treated and responded
to differently. An employer must be advised on how
to continue to operate the business while the picketing
is occurring and what steps should be taken to stop
the picketing as soon as is possible. Receiving timely advice saves time, money, and heartache. We have had
over 100 years of experience with picketing, and our
experience allows us to effectively assist the employer
during these very trying times.
